CREDENTIALS
(the super academic stuff)
In order to help kids achieve their ambitions, I draw on a rich range of experience from more than two decades in higher education as a faculty member and academic advisor. I graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in English (Honors Program) from The College of the Holy Cross (Worcester, MA); earned my M.A. in English with distinction from Georgetown University; and gained my Ph.D. in English from the University of South Carolina, where I was honored with the William H. Nolte Award for excellence in teaching. I’ve taught writing, literature, and digital rhetorics in a wide variety of college and university environments, including the University of South Carolina (Columbia, SC), Aquinas College (Nashville, TN), the University of Albany (NY), The College of Saint Rose (Albany, NY), and Siena College (Loudonville, NY). I’m currently Associate Professor in the Honors College at Coastal Carolina University (Conway, SC) where I also serve as the faculty editor of Bridges, CCU’s cross-disciplinary undergraduate research journal.
I’m an active professional writer as well, publishing scholarly articles on literary and cultural topics, from Sherlock Holmes and social media to the pleasures and pathologies of collecting. For several years, I served as editor for an independent children’s media company. I enjoy writing about parenting and family issues and look forward to finding the time to get some new essays out—someday. You can find my articles on college admissions topics at CollegeXpress.
